Can i get banned off Xbox live?

there is this person on xbox live who sent me a message with profanity and racial quotes. first i don't even know them or met them anywhere. then he sent me a message saying i`m going to be booted off xbox live on the 5th. so is it possible for someone to do this and if so is there anyway i can stop it?
