I think the statement is the reason we even have this category on Yahoo Answers. Regardless of all those who would say there is no god and those who think all of religion is just a bunch of mythology and self delusion, we still, even today in the 21st Century, have reason to believe in "some sort of spiritual identity or religious faith." Those people who were studied in the research must have seen, heard, or believed in what the religious would call a miracle, i.e., something inexplicable that happened that truly saved their in a way they can't explain. And, when that happens, that's why people believe or have faith.
